We know what Police Week is about, but how does it feel – to you? Experience a personal, inside look into National Police Week using social media tools like Blogger, Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. Share stories and perspectives of law enforcement officers, survivors, supporters, and NLEOMF leaders.
Blogger
What is a blog?

A blog, or weblog, is an interactive online journal where people record events, thoughts and perspectives for others to read and answer. Different blogs are about different things – cupcakes, sports, politics, neighborhoods, you name it. See what Blogger says.

NLEOMF is Blogging!
The NLEOMF blog is about supporting law enforcement and about telling its story. We post perspectives as written blog entries, videos and photo slideshows. On the NLEOMF blog you’ll get a much more personal look at us and at the people we support.

Do I have to join the NLEOMF Blog to participate?
No, not at all. Anyone can just click into the NLEOMF blog to read about what’s happening, and post and respond to comments. Go ahead and try it. Try it!

Facebook
What is Facebook?
Facebook is an international network of more than 100 million users that allows people to create personal profiles about themselves to share with the world. Facebook is a great way to meet old friends and make new ones. Facebook is all about interacting with others, and showing what you support, care about, and love to do. See Facebook's Page.

NLEOMF loves Facebook!

Facebook is a great place for non-profits to really connect with the people they support, and who support them. With a variety of tools at our disposal, we have created a Law Enforcement Memorial Profile Page, an NLEOMF Fan Page, and an NLEOMF Group Page, and are also connected through Cause Pages created by other FB users who want to support us.

In March, 2009, the Law Enforcement Memorial Profile Page hit the Facebook limit on number of friends, making it to 5,000 friends. Because of the limit, the best way to interact with NLEOMF on Facebook is to join our Fan Page, which looks and operates just like the Profile page.

Do I have to join Facebook to participate?
To some extent, yes. You have to set up a Facebook profile to view NLEOMF’s Profile and Fan Pages, and to participate in them by posting comments and getting automatic status updates. However, you can view NLEOMF’s Group Page even if you are not a Facebook user or are not logged in. But the best way to get engaged is to join and start looking for friends – don’t forget us! Twitter
What is Twitter?

Twitter is a micro-blogging site that allows you to see what people are saying at every moment. As Twitter says on its website: it’s an “exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?

NLEOMF Tweets! Code: #NPW09
For National Police Week, the NLEOMF Twitter page is very useful – to us, and to you. It allows us to send out updates and information in real time to everyone who has elected to “follow” us, keeping you up-to-date on what’s happening as soon as we know about it.

What does a “tweet” do?
If we find out there’s a change in the Police Week event schedule, if an event gets rained out,or if a restaurant is offering a special for law enforcement supporters, we will send out an update, or a “tweet,” and you’ll know about it instantly.

You can also share your thoughts through Twitter, and see what other people are saying about Police Week in real time by using a special Police Week code: #NPW09. Just put it in your tweet about Police Week, and it will be tagged for other people to see.

Twitter on your phone
The best part about Twitter is that you can set it up to send tweets directly to your phone so you always get the latest information. Find out how.

Do I have to join Twitter to participate?
Yes and no. You can always view what we’re saying, but to post a response, “re-tweet,” or get our Twitter updates, you have to join Twitter. It’s simple and easy – try it out! Twitter

YouTube
What is YouTube?

YouTube is a free video broadcasting website that allows people to upload and watch original videos. YouTube allows non-profits to set up their own YouTube channels to share information and video about what they’re doing with interested supporters all over the world. As YouTube says, “As more people capture special moments on video, YouTube is empowering them to become the broadcasters of tomorrow.”

The NLEOMF YouTube channel

We have been uploading and sharing video from ceremonies, events and important, moments on TheNLEOMF YouTube channel since summer of 2008. We share video we upload on YouTube on the NLEOMF blog, on Twitter, and on our Facebook pages, and we get to watch and share other people’s video too.

Do I have to join YouTube to participate?
Not at all. You can view video at any time by just going to our YouTube channel, TheNLEOMF.
